Question:
No matter what I try to eat.....
The first couple of bites I take I feel sick, not so much nausea, but sick, I am 8 weeks post op, if I can manage to get past the feeling I seem to eat ok, but some days it is so hard to get past that feeling. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so any ideas on what to do? Thanks Susan — Susan B. (posted on August 14, 2002)

Hi Does this only happen when you eat something Do you feel the same when
you drink. about 10 weeks out i had been having problems eating made me
sick at my stomach but drinking my protein drinks didnt bother me. What the
problem was for me the scare tissue had built up around my stoma so had to
have the scope and balloon thing done on july 5 and have not had any more
problems with eating since so you might want to check with your doctor
about this

Susan you could be describing me. Everything I ate made me sick till I was
about 6 months post op. I would litterly eat and have to lie down for about
30 minutes till the nausea went away, then I was fine till the next meal. I
am now 9 months post op (-140 lbs) and ALOT of times I still do this but it
is getting better now, it at least is only about 50/50. It does get better!
I asked my surgeon about this numerous times because I wanted to make sure
it wasn't what I was eating (even though it didn't matter what I ate it
happened) and she assured me that it was not my menu that it was just how
my body chose to accept the surgery. Everyone is different with this
surgery and it affects us all differently. I am kinda glad that it has this
affect on me because I have done really well with the weight loss and I
contribute alot of it to this "nausea feeling", it makes me think
before I put anything into my mouth. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any
questions. Good Luck!

Susan, I felt nauseous and sick every morning for the first 6 weeks or so
and to this day, breakfast is the hardest for me. I feel a little sick,
more just not hungry every am, but once I force myself to eat, I'm fine the
rest of the day. One thing that helped early on, was to slow down my
eating. Try eating smaller bites and much, much slower. See if that makes
a difference-it did for me.
