Question:
I know that we stop drinking a half hour before we eat, but does that mean
that we also must stop drinking a half hour before taking pills, vitamins, and minerals? I read of someone who always drank with eating, and they had health problems because their nutrients weren't being absorbed. Even though the intestine is what digests everything we consume, is it possible that liquid can wash out the nutrients? — Kelly M. (posted on July 23, 2002)

This is how my doc explained it to me. There is no problem with drinking
prior to or with your meds. I, however, always take mine with food instead
because the vitamins and iron tend to make me sick. As far as the pouch
sharing food and drink, he says that you have a small space that will only
hold so much. He says ,if you drink with meals, you will not be able to
get enough food into that space. For this reason, he urges his patients to
separate the two (eat 20-30 min. after drink; drink 45-60 min after eat).
As far as the washing food out of your pouch with liquids, he calls this a
myth. Peristalsis is what moves the stuff down the digestive tract and
into the sm. intestine for absorption. That is one myth you'll hear a lot.
Good Luck!

I drink up to the first bite of food, 30 min after. Always have. 8 yrs
What is deadly to your wt loss is bite-sip-bite-sip-bite-sip because that
makes your food "soup" and then you can eat a LOT more food. A
Tbsp or two of water with your food to take a pill if not going to do this
kind of damage.
