Question:
How many calories make 1 gram of fat??
Hey I was wondering if anyone knew how many calories it takes to make 1 gram of fat? I bought this used stationary bike....and I dont have the manual for it....on the monitor it clearly states that for 1 hour I burn over 400 calories...but I would like to know how to convert that into fat grams burned.......thanks so much for your help! ~jenny~ — Jennifer M. A pound of fat is aroiund 3800 calories, so to loose a pound its 9 hours on
that bike. I worked out on a cruise ship treadmil and got depressed over
how easy it is to eat and how hard to loose....

Regarding Bob's post ... yes, that math is true regarding the literal
calories burned, BUT exercise boosts your metabolism for a significant
period of time after it is done, so you continue to burn calories. In the
event that you also built muscle during that session, that muscle will
continue to metabolize at a much higher rate than your fat.
Also, in an upper level Nutrition class at Penn State, I learned that the
3500 calories is a pound concept is highly challenged -- there may be a
range among individuals.
Anyone else that reads this because they thought the were going to get
nutritional info, here we go. Fat - 9 calories per gram -- stored as fat
immediately unless there is no other source of energy (calories); Alcohol -
7 calories per gram, stored as fat immediately; Carbohydrate - 4 grams per
gram -- preferred (easiest)source for the body to use, excess stored as
fat; Protein - 4 grams - 2nd favorite source for the body, excessive
protein metabolism or storage can result in your urine smelling like
ammonia, extra protein not needed for bodily functions is stored as fat.
