Question:
Am i eating too much for being almost 4 months out? Staple line disruption?
I seem to be eating a lot both quantity and frequently. Today I had a slice of toast and an ounce of cashews for breakfast. For lunch I had a Taco Bell super taco and a serving of pintos and beans (isn't that a lot to be able to hold at this point?). This afternoon I had 4 saltines and peanut butter and a protein shake. Then 2 sugar free graham crackers. Then tonight I had a protein shake and 4 fudgesicles. Also had a can of V-8 juice. Thanks. I've ben hungry all day and not satisfied. Also, i hear and feel a lot of gurgling in my stomach and am wondering if I have a staple line disuption? — Linda V. (posted on June 1, 2002)

I do think your volume of food is a bit more than it should be. My doc
says to keep meals to 1-2 oz and 4 times a day. However, we also do protein
shakes 3-5 times a day depending on if we are distal or proximal. The
protein shakes will help satisfy your hunger and also curb the carb
cravings.. I did notice that you are consuming a lot of carbs . Protein
shakes also help curb the sugar cravings.

If you look at what you're eating, it's almost all "mushy" stuff.
If you really want to use your tool to its utmost, you should try eating
straight chicken and see how much of that you can get down in a day.
Chances are, you'll fill up on 2-4 oz. and be full for hours!

As I sit here reading this and drinking my protien drink.. I listen to my
stomach gurgle!!Mine always does, my doctor said it just means the plumbing
is working! I am 5 months out and can eat more than I thought I
should...but the scale is moving steadily down, so my doctor is not
concerned. Also, keep in mind some foods density will determine how much
you can eat..for example If I try to eat a sandwich...I can only get in
maybe a half, but if I eat veggies..I can eat almost a whole can..remember
the size going in is not the same after it is chewed sown..Yesterday I ate
a 6.5 ounce can of tuna..no crackers. but I can't eat more than 2-3
spoonfuls of cottage cheese. I also at times feel hungry all the time and
most of the time it is because I am getting ready to have my
period...during that time I NEVER feel full, but I just learned to dring
more protien shakes for snacks so I do not eat TOO much. I also found that
if I only eat enough to take the "edge" off my hunger, I will be
eating again in an hour or so..Make sure you are eating protien/veggie/carb
in that order when you make your meal , It will help!

Linda, I am also 4 months out and wonder sometimes if I am eating too much,
or if there is a tiny leak somewhere. I can now eat a whole Lean Cuisine,
whereas just a month ago, I did well to eat 1/2. I used to be able to eat
1/3 of a bag of microwave popcorn, now I eat 1/2 at a sitting. I used to
eat 1/2 a sandwich with the top layer of bread removed, and now I can eat
the whole 1/2 a sandwich. I'm thinking that maybe at 4 months out, the
stomach is just naturally expanding to allow that amount of food, but then
at other times I read where those further out than me are still eating the
2-4 ounces of food that I ate at 2 months out. But at least I am not
eating a whole sandwich or a whole bag of popcorn as I would have done
pre-surgery. And I am still losing, although slowly.
