Question:
Anyone 50 years + with previous Heart Bypass Surgery who was successful with WLS?
I had my Open RNY 03-07-02 and have done so well that my mother is seriously considering the surgery. The only thing that concerns either of us is her heart. She underwent a QUADRUPLE bypass in 1988 and is concerned that her heart may give her some trouble while on the operating table. She will be seeing her cardiologist tomorrow, but I was just wondering if there were anyone who has had a similar experience and been okay with WLS. — Amy A. (posted on May 28, 2002)

Hi Hon, well, I didnt have a bypass but i have a pace maker. My Dr. sent
over one of his associates to go through the surgery with me. Perhaps you
might suggest this to your Moms Doctor. I got thu fine and am doing just

My DH had a triple in Aug 2000 then 3 days before his 58th birthday in Dec
2001 had an open RNY. He spent 1 day in ICU as a precaution. So far he's
lost over 91lbs. Good luck to your Mom.

Hi, I am 63 years old and had triple bypass surgery in 1998. I had my RNY
on Oct 9 2002 and have done fine. The only problem I have is that I'm
having trouble with my incision healing. Of course I had to be approved by
my Cardiologist, but he was very supportive and encouraged me to have the
RNY.

I had quadruple heart by-pass three years ago at age 53. This past year my
cardiologist actually RECOMMENDED RNY surgery.
