Question:
Is there anyone here who never vomits?

I have not vomitted once since this surgery. Recently, I have been getting the full signal. Today was the first day I ate bread (one small soft taco shell from Lunchables). I ate it with diced chicken and I got very full. I was uncomfortable and what to vomit to relieve some of the discomfort. I went into the bathroom and tried to vomit. I heaved a few times, but didn't bring up any food. I was still uncomfortable and had to wait till it passed about 20 minutes. Anyone else have this happen? Anyone here who never vomitted (from WLS).    — Lisa N M. (posted on May 9, 2002)

I vomitted 2 days after leaving the hospital cause I took pain meds on an empty stomach. I never took another pain med. I also have never been able to vomit since. I get too full sometimes and can't even make it happen. Doc. told me it has something to do with my surgery. Who knows. I'm not complaining though, I hate to vomit. Although I sure wish I could every once in a blue moon. I am almost 6 months post op.

I don't vomit since having the RNY either. Boy am I glad. I vomited all the time with the VBG because food got stuck so I made myself throw up.

I am eight months out and have only vomited once; it wasn't related to being too full, but to a bad reaction I was having to a medication I was on. I learned something interesting, though -- when your pouch is empty and you get the heaves, absolutely nothing comes up. No bile, no nothing. Kind of strange, though of course it makes perfect sense. As for eating too much and wanting to throw up -- I guess the key is to be very watchful and know the signals your body gives that tell you "full enough". A couple of times I've gone over the line into "too full", and it was very uncomfortable. Best of luck!

I am over 2 years post op and never threw up... I have experienced mild nausea and have had some things not agree with me and I have found applesauce, a piece of peppermint or crystalized ginger helps me... I hope this helps you too... Good Luck

I have truly only vomited once. I've gotten that full feeling and have tried to force myself to vomit and it just won't come up. All I get is a little liquid. Granted you feel miserable for about 30 minutes and then it goes away. Does anyone know why you can't throw up?? Or does anyone know if there's anyway to get you to actually throw up some of that food to get rid of the pain. I'm just curious.

I too have seemed to be unable to vomit even when I wanted to. There have been times when if I had been able to, I would've felt so much better, but no matter how hard I tried, nothing would come up. I can definitely relate. I think that's just the way it is with some of us.

After my vbg in 1997, I used to vomit 3-7 times a day, even after one bite. I had a revision last summer and have not vomited since!!!! I consider this a blessing after what I went through before. I just wait until the nauseous feeling passes.

I am almost 9 months post op and have never vomitted. There have been times when I have tried and tried to force myself to, but I still couldn't. I guess it is a blessing, but it is frustrating when I actually want to and I can't! But I guess it's good because the couple of times I have tried to I wasn't able to and I felt fine 20 minutes later..

My surgoen suggested that when you get that too full feeling to walk around for a little while so the food will pass through. I have never vomitted, but have had that too full feeling. I took my doctor's advice and it really worked for me!
