Question:
Post-op opinions needed on skin elasticity
What did your skin look like before surgery? Did anyone who has stretchmarks have their skin bounce back? I am 22 and my grandma insists that I won't have sagging skin because my stretchmarks that I once had are no longer visible, even though my stomach looks kind of bumpy pre-op. I'm not sure I agree with her and I was wondering what experiences you've had. — Kelly M. (posted on April 7, 2002)

Hi there! I'm also 22 and a post op. My surgeon said he didn't think that I
would need plastic surgery after my loss because of my skin type and my
age....I dissagree. I am almost positive I'll need my arms and thighs done.
I don't think I'll need a tummy tuck though, but I would like a breast
reduction/lift when I'm done. I think a lot of it has to do with where you
pack your weight on. I have an hourglass figure...a 24 hours glass! lol
Best of luck!

I am 39 yrs old and 15 months post op. I've lost approx 140 lbs and have no
loose sagging skin (well, a little in the panni area). I guess I was one of
the lucky ones. I do have alot of stretch marks (very faded) but mostly due
to my pregnancy (20 yrs ago). I think alot has to do with the condition of
your skin pre op, the rate you lose weight and water intake. And pure luck!
Good luck.

After having just had surgery to remove my excess skin, let
me tell you, you have age on your side (lucky you). I am 42
and down 140 pounds. I bounced back enough that the insurance
wouldn't cover a tummy tuck but I wasn't personally satisfied
and had one done last Tuesday. My advice- drink lots of water,
exercise, and use lots of lotions all over. I gave myself 1
year after I lost all my weight and my tummy was the worst
of my problems. Now I suppose my thighs will bug me next, but
that is another year of saving:) Good Luck!
