Question:
what is an average amount of sugar you can have in a single meal ?
I am trying to buy all of my post op foods before my surgery, and I was wondering what is an average amount of sugar? Because I almost bought some frozen popscicles but noticed they had 2gram per pop sicle of sugar. Is this to much or is this ok. It was no sugar added pop's. also I was wondering if there is a protein pill or something? I doubt it but thought I would ask. — Tina K. (posted on March 15, 2002)

Nope. No such thing as a protein pill. Wouldn't that be neat, tho? LOL The
closest you can come is the Proteinex and other liquid protein
concentrates. They taste nasty to me so I prefer to use good old fashioned
food. =) As a new postie my sugar tolerance was 4-6 grams per meal.
Everybody is different but 2 grams shouldn't be a big deal. Now I am 10 mos
post and can eat up to 25 grams of sugar. I try REALLY HARD not to do that!
LOL As a new postie you will find sugar in things that you would have never
dreamed. It is everywhere! The trick is that most RNYers can tolerate more
fruit sugar than refined sugar. I don't ever remember dumping on fruit
although some do and too much of anything is probably not good. If the
popsicles have any fruit juice in them for flavor the sugar is probably
coming from there.

I tried something and it worked. Extreme Pure Pro, mixed with half crystal
lite or even left as is. Freeze them either in ice cube trays with
popsicle sticks, paper cups with sticks or those tupperware popsicle maker
things. Makes a protein popsicle and it tastes great. I'm going to try
too putting it in a blender so it comes out like ice. I did try using an
ice shaver I have (for snow cones) and poured some over it but it came out
more like an icy but still good. It has 42g of protein per bottle (20 oz)
Grape and Fruit punch.

Everyone is different on what they can handle for sugar amounts.
Unfortunately, you have to find out by trial and error. You might want to
try Knox Nutra Joint for protein. You mix it in 4-8oz of water and it is
sugar free.

Actually, there is such a thing as a protein pill. It goes by two names.
MAP (master amino acid pattern) or Protivity---they're the same product.
The pill is 99.9% absorbable---as appossed to fish, beef, chicken, which
does not exceed 17%. One pill is equivelent to whey protein and 35 grams
of protein a day. I only take one a day and get the rest from food.
Others that take it, take 2 or 3 pills a day because they had hair loss.
Since they started taking the protein pills, they have stopped losing their
hair and our blood tests have come out great for protein (even for me, and
I had low protein at my last blood test). Good Luck.
