Question:
Simple or Complex?
I am 5 months out and totally understand the need for less carbs in my diet, if I want this to work. My question is... is it good to get simple carbs in, as in fruit? I know bananas are full of carbs, and I love them, but, I am really afraid to eat them. I like to keep carbs at a minimal daily amount. If I should be doing the fruit, how much in a day? Bread doesnt agree with me, and I sure do miss it, but, I cant eat it. Rice and pasta I can handle, but, I still stay away from them. When I do eat them, I keep it to maybe 1/4 cup. I know its useless food, we get nothing from it. Help me understand my needs for carbs. Thanks! — Kerry P. (posted on March 13, 2002)

If you saw a dietician before your surgery, you might want to call him/her
now to find out. Our bodies do need protein, carbs and fat to function
properly. When most people talk about not eating carbs, they usually mean
starches like bread, pasta, rice. A small amount of fruits and veggies
every day will not hurt you and can also help keep you regular.
