Question:
Has anyone purchased insurance just for this surgery?

I have researched this surgery for almost a year now, and i came to the conclusion that medical assistance probably won't pay for it so i shopped around and finnaly i applied on 2/16/02 for bc/bs carefirst,i'm just afraid they won't pay for it either because i've already asked my doctor about this surgery and i've been seeing a nutritionist for a month now. please respond i don't know what else to do i am at 334lbs & unemployeed because i can't physically endure working only alternative is to apply for disablity at the age of 27. You might contact your state's department of Vocational Rehabilitation. In some states they will pay for the surgery in order to get you off disability and back into the workforce.

Jadona, I didn't exactly get insurance exclusively for this surgery but I did continue it for WLS. I have insurance thru COBRA after I was laid off last year. After 6 months my rate went from 16.00 a month to 200.00. By then I was positive I wanted this surgery so I continued paying the premiums. You would think I would have decided when I was only paying 16.00! I have United HealthCare and have had absolutely no problem getting approved

Jadona, I purchased BC/BS of MI just for this surgery. They most likely will make you wait the 180 day pre-exsisting period. After that you should have no problems. Much Luck.
