Question:
How do you prevent your thighs from

I'm posting anonomously because I'm kind of embarrased about this. I'm 8 months post RNY and I lost a little over 100 lbs. so far. I have alot more energy and can walk fast and lively, and I'm grateful for that, but the only problem is when I walk fast my inner thighs "clap" together with a loud noise. I know better but it could sound like a fart to other people and I am extremely embarrased when it happens. I guess I've got some saggy skin there from the weight loss. Are there girdles for thighs?! Just to note, this happens when I'm wearing a skirt, which I do for work. And instead of pantyhose, I wear knee-high hose as my skirts are past the knee so nobody knows I'm wearing knee-highs. I can't wear pantyhose because they rub on my inner thighs and give me those painful red bumps. Not to mention the stupid things never stay up; they're always riding down throughout the day so that by the end of the day, the crotch part is down to my knees. REALLY aggravating! So, what, if anything, can I do to stop that clapping, other than a thigh lift since I'm only 8 months post-op and only half way through my weight loss? Sorry if this sounds so trivial.    — [Anonymous] (posted on January 25, 2002)

It happens to me too and it's not pretty! LOL I wear lycra bike shorts under things like that. It cuts down on the clapping, the chafing, and the sweatiness. They are cheap at Target and Wal-Mart. Good weight loss! I'm out 4.5 months and 95 pounds... just 75 pounds more to go to 140! THEN I will care if my thighs are still misbehaving!

I have very loose skin on my upper thighs, I sat down too fast at a staff meeting yesterday (also long skirt) and they slapped together so loud 2 people turned and looked at me... I pretended it was my books. I wasn't too embarasses, 'cause 10 months ago, my thighs never could have made sound 'cause they never stopped touching. Have you tried going without hose lately? I can do it without chafing now, though I know they chafed at this weight before (even in the summer, I was ok...I'd think with all the excess it would be worse). If not, I heartily second the bike shorts suggestion....!

Try wearing pantyhose that are big enough such as "Just My Size." Then wear an elastic control-top panty over top of your hose to keep them up so the crotch doesn't drag down. Works for me. :-)

I agree that if you get big enough hose they stay up. I get my panty hose through the Roamans catalog. I get the big beautiful woman ones. They go all the way up to a size 7x. I find that tights do the job as well. You can order a catalog from Roamans.com.

Ugggh I HATE pantyhose also, can never get them to fit correctly. I'm super short, so even if I did get them big enough to go over my big butt, they are so long I can pull them up over my boobs LOL But yes, they make "long line girdles" they look like a pair of bike shorts, they tuck in your tummy, your butt, and your thighs, they stop about 2" above your knees, or you can get the full leg girdle that stops about 2" below your knees. JCPenny's catalog is a good place to look for the quality ones.

I have 2 suggestions for you. One is that I have seen boxer short type slips. You know, instead of a skirt type white slip they are made like shorts.Wal-mart) The other is something I do all the time. I like to wear sun dresses but my thighs would rub together and then I would get the ugly red bumps and rashes you are talking about. I take panty hose and cut them off at just above the knees. I turn them inside out because then they don't "swish" when you walk either. Anyhow, they keep my thighs protected and my stomach in place (control top). Now, we'll have to see what this summer/spring holds for me. I have lost approx. 60 lbs since I have worn a sundress. I also agree with the other poster about the Just my Size panty hose. They DO stay up. Good Luck.....

First of all, congratulations on your incredible weight loss! As far as your thighs go, do what I do: I bought some lycra-spandex work-out shorts that go mid-thigh. They're sort of like wearing a girdle, but trust me, they are far more comfortable! And they give great tummy, rump and thigh support! This should keep them from "clapping", and you can easily wear them under any of your skirts! Good luck!

I haven't worn panty hose in 10 years because of the chafing. Instead, I wear long skirts and dresses and knee hose. I also wear half slips that are like petticoats; they are full slips but are sewn up the middle so the entire thigh is covered (both thighs). This prevents the skin from one thigh from rubbing on the skin of the other thigh. I have bought them up to size 4X at the local "fat lady's" clothing store, and now wear them in regular size Large (since I've lost 120 lbs). I've also bought the long girdle type of body shaper, which goes from the waist to right above the knee. If you buy one in a bigger size than you wear, they're not too tight. Buy one in all cotton for more comfort. Lane Bryant carries then. The petticoats are lifesavers though!!!

I agree with the poster about the long line girdle. I used to work in the lingerie department at Sears, and they have a TON of things meant to make women thinner. They have soft, flexible girdle type things for just the top, just the bottom, or for the whole thing. Very convenient. I've used them in the past, and they work wonders for bulges. Very comfortable, as well.

I LIVED in my slip material-long panty style shorts for about 3 years. I wore it rather than a slip. Actually, I wore it out completely! Now I need to find one smaller. It really is so much more comfortable to me (even thinner) to wear this under skirts, rather than a regular slip. I may be skinnier - but I do NOT like my legs to touch. I see them for sale all the time in Lane Bryant and Roamans' catalogs. I also get big cysts (even thin) and this slip stopped that. Spandex leggings or shorts is another option. I would wear those in the winter.

I second the Bike shorts recommendation. I wear a pair when I wear dresses.(Hate panty hose) It definetly helps with the chafing and sweating. Good luck and keep up the walking.

I like to wear the slips that are like pants. They keep my legs from rubbing together. I saw them at Sears, or you can order them from WinterSilks.com.
