Question:
After approval do I just wait for a date? Will the surgeon handle everything from here?
I have my letter of approval from my insurance company, I was told I have full approval, I have my consultation appt. this month, will I have to send anything elses to the insurance company for more approval or do I just wait for a date now??? and will my surgeon take care of any extra stuff the insurance company needs if any? — bikerchic (posted on January 8, 2002)

Normally your surgeon's staff will take care of anything the insurnace
company will need. If your insurance company requires anything more, they
frequently go thru your surgeon to get it and then your surgeon will
contact you. But, I know this is not always the case. Since you are
already approved though, there shouldn't be anything else for you do other
then have your consultation, get a surgery date and do your pre-op testing.
Congratulations on your approval! I hope everything else moves swiftly
for you.

It kind of sounds like my journey- approval, consultation and then (which
they may or may not ask you to do) some pre-op tests. Usually your surgeon
will order these. You can always help facilitate, though! I kept calling
for my surgery date, after I quickly got my requirements over with... so
they KNEW I wanted a date, ASAP. I also made sure the required test
results were sent in before the next consultation. I just made sure every
thing was "in it's place" . Therefore, no hold ups.

My surgeon's nurse called me w/ the good news of approval, and she asked me
WHEN I would like my surgery.

The day I found out from the insurance company that I was approved I had
them personally fax the approval to the nurse scheduler. I then called her
immediately to confirm she got the letter. Then I set my preop appointment
with the doc. I would not wait for anything. I would call the doc and set
up the next appointment right away. I even asked the nurse to fit me into
a cancelation if one should come up. I was approved like on November 1st
2001 and had surgery the 15th!!!!!!! Good luck to you.. and keep calling..
the squeaky wheel gets the grease!!!!
