Question:
Should I call my surgeon for drainage after a Tummy tuck?
I had a tummy tuck a month ago. I started having drainage from under my belly button last week. I have been putting on peroxide & first aide creme and it seem to have stopped draining. The skin now looks red and shiny. Is this something I should worry about? Thanks! — Helen C. (posted on January 2, 2002)

If it's red and shiney, it's infected.

Please contact your surgeon regarding these symptoms, I happen to have a
dear friend in the hospital right now with severe infection due to her
tummy tuck! She is in rough shape....don't hesitate to demand some
attention ASAP. Why wait?

I had draining from a small opening just under my belly button at about 3
weeks, and the red & shiny. It was definitely infected, and 5 days on
antibiotics cleared up the infection. The opening is taking a bit longer
to heal but is getting better. You should absolutely see your doctor and
get on antibiotics before it gets worse! Kate
