Question:
My surgeon is leaving for vacation right after my surgery. During my

hospital stay I will be checked on by another surgeon at the BTC. I have known this since my surgery date was scheduled, but now that it is getting closer, it is bothering me. How important is it for my own surgeon to be available during my hospital stay? Should I reschedule?    — Judith A. (posted on December 4, 2001)

AS much as I'd feel insecure without my doc, it is OK if the other doc is another one on his team. My husband had the worst complication, the post-op leak, and BOTH docs were in Italy at a conference on bariatric surgery! BUT the on call docs knew what to do, performed the repair surgery, not too soon, not too late and he did FINE. Perfect. Might have been scarier for ME than him, since I was awake and he was ga-ga.
