Question:
Has anyone had gastritis and a hiatal hernia?
I have gastritis and a hiatal hernia, with mild flair ups at times. My main concern is will the flair ups with the gastritis do something to my staple line? I am so afraid of bursting open from gas...... Is this stupid or what? But I am still very concerned. — [Anonymous] (posted on November 30, 2001)

I had a HUGE hiatal hernia repaired during my surgery. The part of your
stomach that is removed is the part that produces the most stomach acid. I
haven't even taken a TUMS since my surgery. Even if I never lost a pound (I
am 80 pounds down since May 2001) surgery would have been worth it just to
have this horrible problem fixed.

I lived on prilosec and sitting up while I slept due to GERD. I hated the
wet burps that burned my esophagus. Since surgery I have only felt like my
gastritis was acting up a few time so I took some tums at night and started
my prilosec for 2 wks and that took care of it. ( my mom had been real sick
and then died 4 weeks after my surgery and I knew it was stress related.
This surgery had helped me in sooo many ways including my gastritis and
hiatal hernia. I can lay flat and on my stomach now.
