Question:
I am 4 1/2 months post op and I am concerned that I eat too much.

Can some post-ops at or near my stage give me examples of how much they eat of different things. Also I would appreciate a sample daily meal plan. Also, my surgery was July 12, 2001 and then I weighed 419 lbs. I weighed 2 days ago and I was at 335....is that a good weight loss? Thanks for your help!!    — imano1momy (posted on November 26, 2001)

You're losing at a rate of 18.6 pounds a month. That is great. I am 5 months today. Yesterday for breakfast I had about 4 bites of a salad with chicken on top (I take regular sized bites), 90 grams of protein (30 at bfast, lunch, dinner). For a snack I had 3/4 of a bag of baked lays. Water, water, water. About 5 oz of clam chowder. Well looking back I really didn't eat much yesterday. I think there are days where I could eat all day, then days where I don't even pay attention and rarely eat. I recently added Cher-Amino protein to my regime to allow me to eat 3 meals a day (this protein is 4 tablespoons for 30 grams -- the shakes have a tendency to fill me up). So anyway, for bfast I'll have 1 scrambled egg w/ a half pc of cheese then I'll do the 4 tblspoons of CherAmino (it tastes like cough syrup so I'll be doing it over the sink then brushing my teeth!), I'll do water/Crystal lite until mid morning then maybe a protein shake. Lunch will be maybe a small Wendy's chili with crackers. Or maybe a Wendy's taco salad (I can only eat half). Then I probably will have some more water an hour later then for dinner will eat the rest of the taco salad or something else. Hope this helps! Good luck and God Bless!

I can't comment regarding your diet, since I'm 9 months out and can't remember exactly what I was eating at 4 months out ... but I was a similar starting weight to you (407), and I remember I lost 60 lbs. in the first six weeks, 100 lbs. total in the first three months, and then another 50 lbs. in months 4 thru 9. I have about 50-75 lbs. to go, and I'm still losing slow but steady. I'm at 256 now, down from 407. I'll hit my 9 month anniversary in approximately 2 weeks. Hope the info. helps!

Hi there! I am over 4 months post op too (7/19 open proximal RNY). I can eat alot compared to other post ops I know who had surgery around my date. Yesterday for bf I had 1/2 turkey sandwich with light mayo. and a few WOW chips. Lunch was out at a restuarant I ate about 3/4 of a child size steak sandwich (good steak not chopped) and about 5 steak fries..now I did have to vomit as I ate too fast..if I ate slow enough I would have kept it just fine. For an afternoon snack I had a lf yogurt. For dinner maybe a 1/4 c turkey soup (was yucky or I would have eaten a whole mug full) and a hand full of cheese crackers. Then I snacked my whole night away. a Few Wow chips, pretzels, nuts, banana and Fat free pudding pop. I started at 282 and am now 216. I guess I ain't doing too bad. I haven't exercised regularely at this point either, but do plan to do so. Soon! I've been averaging 1100-1300 calories a day. I'm going to try to work on cutting out some of those evening snacks...but I feel just like I did before surgery with the guilt, self anger, self control issues...so wish me luck! lol. If you want to write and compare notes, please feel free. Good luck!-Kim

My eating capacity varies from day to day. Eating very slow I can eat a LOT more if its chewed to nothingness. That occured thanksgiving day, I ate a whole plate of food while others gobbled 4 plates. Eating fast this is impossible. I drink with meals sometimes to get in more protein, and that allows more eating too.

Hi Jessica, I had my surgery on 7-30-01, Starting weight 341, now 235. Well first off I would like to say that in the morning I seem to be able to eat more. I can eat two large eggs with cheese. Or a whole cup of cottage cheese. For lunch I usually eat 3 to 4 oz of turkey, chicken or fish, and a piece of cheese. And for dinner, I usually have 3 to 4 oz of turkey , fish or chicken, with half a cup of salad, or some other veggie. If I chew really really well, I can eat more. I'm still losing weight rapidly. I do not eat bread, it makes me feel full too fast, plus I follow the Atkins diet, which does not allow bread. I'd say that yes your weight loss is great!! Congratulations!!!
