Question:
Which is more WLS-friendly - Aetna or BCBS PPO?
I now have Aetna, but can elect BCBS through open enrollment right now. From what I remember, it seems more people have problems with BCBS. Is that correct? What about surgeries afterwards (i.e., tummy tuck, breast lift, etc.)? — Kathy B. (posted on November 19, 2001)

I work in elig for Aetna US Heathcare, and they have policies in place that
unless your employer specifically excludes it, both gastric bypass(open
only) and abdominoplasty are both covered expenses as long as you meet the
criteria. Call your member services dept for more info.

I have Aetna USHC and was approved for a LAP RNY in 24 hours (8-21-01) My
aunt has BCBS and was approved also very quickly (11-12-01). I'm not sure
that what the previous poster said is accurate regarding open only because
I had the Lap with no problems with approval.

I also have Aetna US Healthcare and they apporved the Lap RNY within 24
hours. I originally tried for the BPD/DS but they denied that twice, saying
that it as exprerimental. As soon as we went for the Lap RNY I was
approved! It turns out that I am very glad that I had the RNY anyway. I am
also hoping to have abdominoplasty/breast lift in the future and am glad to
hear from the previous poster that they will cover it if I qualify, that's
good news! Hope this helps, good luck!

I have BCBS and was approved in about 2 weeks. However, I
am not sure it is the company as much as it is the policy
the employer has contracted with the company that matters.
I would check with each individual company to see what they
offer for the policy they contracted with your employer.

I have BC BS PPO and they approved me almost immediately, which was great.
I have a 36 BMI w/ co-mo's. They have been a dream for me. Too bad my doc
isn't a PPO member!
