Question:
Am I still a canidate for for revision , after having a Pulmonary Ebolisim with VBG surgery?
I had open VBG in 1997, and had a PE a few days post op. I'm considering a revision as I am gaining weight again. I had to have gallbladder surgery in 98 and they just gave me hepurn before and after surgery. I know my risk is high for reoccurance, but would a surgeon considerate doing this surgery with a PE history? — crusher250 (posted on November 17, 2001)

There is a filter that they can insert for those that have had problems
with blood clots. It is a vena cava filter that "traps" blood
clots and prevents them from going to vital organs.

Hi! I have had pe's and dvt's on numerous occasions, some before surgery,
some after. My most recent one was in August of this year and my surgery is
scheduled for December 17th. My hematologist has run every test known to
man but they can't find out what makes me clot so I'm on coumadin for life.
I will take coumadin probably up until 3 wks before the surgery at which
time they will switch me to a low weight heparin. Heparin doesn't stay in
the body as long as other blood thinners and I can take it right up until
the day of surgery. I have to see a vascular surgeon in a few weeks to get
the final details but I'm sure it will all be fine. If you have any more
questions feel free to email me at [email protected] Good luck!

I beleive they will, but they will probably insert a Greenfield filter. I
had one as a precaution, as I was high risk for clots. Guess what....... I
got clots and this devise saved my life, so 3 doctors told me.
