Question:
Has anyone recvd approval from Aetna HMO without prior documented diet history?
I just got a call from my surgeon's office, and they said that the nurse at Aetna says I need documented history of Medically supervised diets. My PCP up to age 22 (i'm 28 now) has deleted all of my records.. PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME A SUCCESS STORY. — MerkMerk (posted on November 6, 2001)

I received approval in two days from Aetna HMO without documentation of
prior diets. When I called customer service prior to my doctor's appt,
they told me that if I met the criteria and my surgeon felt it was
necessary, they would approve it. I *just* met the criteria with a 40.6
BMI and I was approved right away. Good luck.

I was approved in two days. I had my PCP write a letter about previous
attempts at weight loss (Optifast, weight watchers, slimfast, etc...) That
letter was all they wanted back then. I think that Aetna really likes when
your PCP's support. Look at my profile for a copy of my letter from my
PCP. I hope it helps. Good luck to you!

Aetna HMO required the same thing from me. They wanted last 3 years
documentation. I was all set for surgery, then the last minute
requirement. I felt devastated. I had not been on any doctor supervised
diet in years! Luckly, I had a secondary insurance that covered. It's
strange because I've seen some people get approved by them without the
documentation, according to their profile.
