Question:
My heart rate is 40 and my doctor is concerned it is too low.
I am now officially somewhat underweight, if you take into account the excess skin. I had rny surgery three years ago and went from 356 to 131. I feel great, but am beginning to worried about my health due to the low heart rate. I am being referred to a cardiologist. I do not do aerobic exercise because of knee problems, so it's not because I am a marathon runner or anything. I eat plenty, but may not get enough protein because I still can't eat meat or fish. My labs are fine. Any ideas? — Helen M. (posted on September 20, 2001)

Has your MD done any EKG's or anything, sometimes it's not a chemical
problem, it's an electrical problem. Check with your MD

I had heart beat problems myself. I'm postop RNY from 4/4/00. Sometimes I
have a type of tachycardia where my heart races so fast I start blacking
out. But, when I get to the hospital, it can slow down to 42! The nurses
think its too low but the docs don't seem to worry -- but like you, I'm not
a big athlete so it shouldn't be that low! I think your cardiologist will
help you out with answers though. Best wishes.
