Question:
Has anyone had easy and long-lasting bruising post op?
I am starting to get concerned. I am 6 months post op. When I first had my surgery, I was given heparin shots in my abdomen and I STILL have those bruises! I also went on a trip in June and bruised my leg in several places on a speed boat and I still have those bruises also and they are black and blue. I admit I haven't been taking my iron as much as I should...but I went and had blood tests done and they said my labs came back normal. Has anyone else had this problem? — MsKandice (posted on September 17, 2001)

Candice, I also had bruises that seemed like they would never go away. But
not for months on end, I'm talking about just several weeks. I did notice
that once I was on a regular routine of take my iron they started to fade
and went away. And, I haven't had any since. You need to make a conscious
effort to take them everyday. I bought a weekly pill pack and every Sunday
I refill it for the week and I grab each days worth as I head out of the
house to work, etc.. It had worked out great. I think the key is to get
your iron in. Good luck...

I am glad that I am not the only one. I also had heprin (sp)shots on my
abdomen while in the hospital and still have a huge bruise where one of
them were injected. I am only a little over eight weeks post op though.
Also I have been bruising very easily lately. I am not on iron at all at
this time. I have to go and get my blood checked to see if I am deficient.

Did you actually get copies of your labs? You might see WHERE in the range
you are. Ranges are pretty general, so if you are just a hair above Low,
you can be seeing/feeling the effects. You take your iron with Vit C,
correct? But not with milk or caffeine or other meds or any other vites or
minerals or Tums?
