Question:
why am i coughing up this yellow bitter mucus & its burning my throat bad

I am 9 mos post op and for the first time I've woken up coughing up yellow mucus. It's the most bitter stuff I've ever tasted and it's burning my throat terribly. I took my prevecid and I'm eatting a sf fudgsickle but it still burns and tastes horrible. What's going on?    — Debbie A. (posted on May 17, 2003)

please call your doctor! I haven't a clue what it is, but sounds like you could use some medical advice!

My FIRST thought was 'I wonder if she had the Mini-Gastric bypass' if so.. then this might be bile reflux which can happen with the Mini and would tell you to call your PCP and get tested. If not; then it are you transected? if NOT, could be SLD - ANY hoooo the other posts are right; Call your PCP or surgeon. This isnt 'normal'

This sounds like Bile that you are bringing up. I suggest you make a call to your surgeon . Could be acid reflux or an ulcer.

I agree with everybody else...call you doctor, but it could also just be a sinus infection and have nothing to do with your surgery. Last time I had a sinus infection I coughed up that foul tasting mucus. Yuck! Whatever it is, you no doubt need some antibiotics. Good luck!
