Question:
I'm seeking information from St.Vincent's Carmel (Indiana) UHC Open RNY Patients
If I'm lucky enough to find someone else fitting the description of who I need to ask this question..yea!!! I would like to know how much I can expect to pay out of pocket for Open RNY at St. Vincent's Carmel with United Health Care PPO at 80/20(I think!!) I've read some people only having to pay $150.00(a dream come true ..let me tell ya!) I'd just like to get an idea of how much I can expect to be shelling out for this very important surgery. I think I have a cap of $2000. I'll also be calling United Health Care to ask specifically but I swear someimes when you get to talking to the insurance company about this stuff, it's like a foreign language...and they expect you to know what the heck they're talking about!!! — kathleen-Joan piper (posted on March 30, 2003)

Kathleen, if by cap you mean your maximum out-of-pocket, then that is all
you will pay. Besides of course co-pays or any evaluations that might not
be covered.
I too have UHC, my maximum out-of-pocket is $2500.

I do fit your description to a "T"....but my UHC is 100%. I had
to pay a $60 hospital stay. The cost of my surgery there was like 19,000
or so total, including all tests and fees....if your cap is 2000, at 80/20,
you'll probably need to be prepared to pay the entire 2000. UHC was great
btw. Good luck to you! April Open RNY 12/26/02 405/338/185 Dr. Huse St.
Vincent Carmel.

I have UHC ppo and I had my open RNY at St. Vincent Carmel.
My policy calls for a $500.00 deductible and a $1,500 out of pocket. I
paid $2,000 out of pocket and that's it.
