Question:
How do I find a PCP in the Kaiser System who is sympathetic to WLS?
I have Kaiser of No CA. Aside from going from doctor to doctor how do I locate a PCP who is sympathetic to WLS? My current doctor doesn't want to discuss weight loss with me because he says there are numerous resources outside of Kaiser to achieve that goal & that I just need to pick one and stick with it. I am 49 yrs old and have been "dieting" since I was 9! This doctor has seen me numerous times due to knee injuries I've incurred through exercising and he has warned me that exercise is not a viable way to lose weight. Since he has moved to a new location out of the area. it's time for me to find a new PCP. I don't know where to start....HELP! — Janice G. (posted on January 16, 2003)

Find out if there are any Kaiser sponsored WLS support groups in your area.
I went to one and took a piece of paper asking for Doc, location and
comments, told the group what I needed and got about 20 different names! I
found one that is taking patients, and she is very nice. Good Luck to you.

I had my surgery through Kaiser. I live in N. California. If you have a
BMI of 50 or more, or 40 or more with co-morbidities you qualify for a
referral. Co-morbidities are problems such as: joint pain, Hypertension,
diabetes etc. I would keep nagging. You can try contacting S. San
Francisco Kaiser. Thats where they did my surgery. I found doctors are
reluctant to refer patients. Your doctor may need more information. If
all else fails keep switching doctors until you find one that will refer
you.
Good Luck
