Question:
My brother has a shunt and can't find a surgeon that has experience with this
I just had surgery 2 weeks ago and just told my family. I found out my younger brother has been trying for 2 years and even thou he qualifies and has been approved by insurance, he can't find a surgeon with experience in dealing with patients with a shunt. He lives in Nor Carolina but I'm sure he would travel to find someone capable of helping him. — Neal A. (posted on November 14, 2002)

Aloha!!! I have a comorbidity that almost required me to have a LP shunt
inserted but I opted to have the WLS instead. However, my particular
surgeon said that he would do the WLS with the shunt in place. The only
thing is that my surgeon is a military surgeon and only will perform
surgery on military dependents or active duty members. I would recommend
contacting someone at ASBS (asbs.com) to see if they can recommend a
general surgeon who might also have a Neurosurgery background. There are
others with shunts out there that have had this done, so it is just a
matter of finding them!!! Good luck!! Hugs, Kathie (in
Hawaii)........................

Hi Neal. My surgeon, Dr. Leland James Cook, in Hickory, NC would be worth
giving a call to. His number is 828-327-9178, it never hurts to ask and
this has to be closer than Pittsburgh. Hope all goes well. God Bless.
