Question:
Have Regence Blue Shield...Need 2nd insurance
Regence Blue Shield's exclusion states no coverage for obesity control regardless of accompanying medical conditions. I will still seek approval on the chance someone new makes a mistake and approves me :o) But I am NOT holding my breath. I have done some research for a 2nd insurance and cannot find one here in WA that does not have the same exclusion. I am prepared to wait the 9 mos or whatever for pre-existing conditions...but I know that at one time my husband applied for insurance, don't remember if it was thru work or privately, they wouldn't cover me because of my weight except with some outlandish fee. Anyone have any advice or guidence for me? — joyfulnoyz (posted on August 31, 2002)

Ins. in WA. DON'T get me started. I was just about to get medical ins for
my tiny company that covered WLS. It would cover from self-only on up in
employees. But it was HMO, so I dragged my feet. THEN, I looked around
some more, and it was the only one left that one could get, in WA, that
covered WLS (& follow up care) for 10 or fewer employees. So, I said,
OK. I'll swap my PCP to keep my surgeon. But no! The last day in WA for
these types of companies was 11/30/01. There is no ins available in WA,
for private (self), self employeed or companies with 50 or fewer employees
that covers WLS. Or if there is, all the brokers got together &
decided to keep it a secret. They all agree that this is the case and they
have looked, not for me alone, but for other tiny companies. I signed with
Regence, because it's good coverage for everything else, as long as I don't
need lab work or any other "tune ups" to my surgery. But I'm not
happy. :-(
