Question:
Has anyone had a problem with their tongue hurting?
This almost feels like a burn. My tongue hurts at the surface. I sipped some Coca-Cola yesterday and it actually burned my mouth, so I had to stop. Also, I had a weird "thrush" type reaction to the protein drinks right after surgery and had to put it down by switching to active yogurt and other natural high-protein foods. I'll say it again; pureed cottage cheese is fabulous with baby banana's. :) Thanks for the help! — Sandra W. (posted on May 6, 2001)

Some things to think about with the tongue are (newly post op) scraping
from the tubes in the throat, and thrush, aka yeast infection from
antibiotics. Babies get this a lot. You'd need some meds that are like if
you broke a blue ink pen in your mouth. LOL Not so pleasing to the eye, but
it works. Also, eat yogurt labeled "live cultures" on the
nutrition facts. These cultures help combat the yeast. To see if this might
be it, look way back in the throat for white spots of stuff. If none of
this works, maybe gargle with warm salt water for relief.

Thanks to everyone who offered a kind ear and great advice. The tongue
swelling and redness was most likely Thrush. I went on Yoplait Yogurt twice
a day and it cleared up within about a week. Yoplait is also NOT on the
recommended food list for my surgeon but it worked and he was fine with it.
To the person who "anonymously" slammed me for having a few sips
of Coca Cola...get over it. When it is your turn you will understand. I am
large, not perfect! :) ---Sandra
