Question:
I got a job that has insurance, how long should I wait?
Today I got a job that has insurance (BCBS) and I have a appointment tomorrow about my medicaid eligibility and I was wanting to know should I go ahead and go to my appointment or just wait the 90 days for the insurance? Please help. [email protected] — [Anonymous] (posted on May 1, 2001)

This is a loaded ? so I'm gonna try and cover all I know. What is your
probationary period w/ your new employer? You would typically want to wait
until you have passed your probationary period which ranges typically from
90-days to 6 months depending on the employer. If you have absentiesm in
that time period it can affect your retention as an employee (i.e. they
could let you go for any reason). Does your new insurance cover this
surgery (check the exclusions/limitations on the benefit summary)? If it
doesen't check with Medicaid. Based on the procedure of choice how long
are you expected to be off work? This could also affect your job.. check
about what it takes to qualify for family leave and see if you will meet
the requirements. Does Medicaid cover this for you? If Medicaid will cover
this I'd go for it. Email me if I can be of further help.
