Question:
Can overeating cause internal bleeding?
I am almost six months out from an open RNY with a transected stomach. When I had my annual physical, the doctor found blood during the rectal exam. Rather than scope me he had a high-contrast CT scan run to check for lesions, tears, etc. Nothing showed up. I have had several incidences over the holidays where I have overeaten and had adominal pain as a result. Could this be causing the blood that the doctor found? — [Anonymous] (posted on January 12, 2001)

BTW, I am not exhibiting any fever. I am not anemic and my CBC is normal.

I really doubt it. Your digestive system is more durable than that. More
likely causes for some blood in your stool would probably be an ulcer, or
hemmorhoids. Do you get constipated or have hard stools? That is not
uncommon in WLS people, and can cause hemmorhoids or small tears in your
rectum that will bleed a little. Good Luck!
