Question:
Have I compromised my staple lining ?
I am really concerned that I am eating way too much for a person who has had RNY surgery. My surgery was on December 3, 1999. Just as an example I am able to eat a bagle w/ff cream cheese, yogurt for breakfast. For lunch a Lean Cuisine meal. For dinner a Lean Cuisine meal. Unfortunately, I don't suffer from dumping so what goes in my stomach stays in. I don't have any sort of pain from my pouch stretching but I do wonder if I am stretching it too far. Does anyone know how you can tell if you have stretched your pouch? Thank you for whatever information you can give me. — [Anonymous] (posted on August 18, 2000)

My surgery was 2/23/00 and had RNY too. I really don't think you've done
any damage to your staple line. I, too, felt that way for a month and made
my surgeon order an Upper GI done. Needless to say, I am doing fine and
no damage was found. I have found that we, post ops sometimes, have no
concept of just what and how much we can take in when we are eatting. I,
too, started with Lean Cuisine meals. I ate all but the desert portions and
I thought that was too much. But they weren't!! I am now almost 6 months
out and have lost over 105 pounds and have had only 2 plateaus. So rest
easy and just keep using your common sense and you will be okay.
