Question:
Does anyone else have a problem with their period after surgery
I had surgery on 1/7/04. Since that time I have had my period SIX times. I have only lost 51 pounds. (My head says I should have lost more) Has anyone else had this messed up of a period after surgery? Mine was normal before surgery. Had the irregular period caused you to lose slower? — Cameron Van Winkle (posted on April 11, 2004)

I am only about 6 weeks post-op so I really only have a small window from
which to speak. Pre-op my periods lasted 1 1/2 days every 35 days. The
first one after surgery last 6 days. :P About 2 weeks after that I got
some WICKED cramps that lasted a good 30 hours. I have not had that since
I was 13. I was going to call the dr if it had not stopped the next day,
it was that bad. Now I am just waiting to see what will happen in 10 more
days!! I was reminded by a close friend that everything inside has been
pushed proded and pulled. Don't expect it to remain "normal" for
awhile. If you are really worried I would call your gyn. Six times in 3
months would slay me!!

3 months and down 50 lbs, according to my surgeon you are right on
schedule. that's where I was at my 3 month visit.

I understand your problems. I had my surgery 7/22/03 down 105lbs. I
haven't had a period right since my surgery. I start 3 to 7 days early
everytime and I am on the pill! Your weight lose seems fine, 50lbs in 3
months!!! If you keep having them that frequently you need to call you
gyn. If things are still out of balance this month that is what I am going
to do.

My periods were abnormal for the first 6 months after my surgery. I always
had terrible cramps and was starving no matter how much I ate for 3 days
before and all during every month pre surgery. For 6 months after surgery
they were no big deal, no cramps, no mood swings no extra hunger pains.
Now they are back to what they were before, cramps and I am always hungry
for 3 days before and all during again. I guess it took my body 6 months
to catch up. I liked it alot better when it was messed up :o)

You *only* lost 51 pounds in three months? What the heck is that
"only" doing in there? 51 pounds is great! It seems a lot of
people have screwy periods for a while after surgery. Will it cause you to
lose slower? I doubt it. Most of us find we lose fastest in the week
after our period and find it hardest to lose in the week before our period.
So, I would think it all balances out in the end! Don't worry, you're
doing just fine and you're not losing slow at all.

My periods came every other week for the first few months following my
surgery. As if I didn't have enough to deal with I got the "hormones
from hell". You'll be happy to know that it did not in any way effect
my weight loss. I went from 315 to 127 without plateau and I'm just coming
up on 17 months post-op. Good Luck! I'm sure you'll do great!

I say only when I say I only lost 51 pounds because my head still doesn't
realize that is alot of weight. I know that I would NEVER have lost this
much weight this fast any other way. It just gets to you when you see
other people lose weight faster. You feel like a failure. Don't worry
because I do see the inches. The person who said the week before period
your scales stand still is right. After my period is the day I lose the
most. Thank you all. I just needed so support.
