Question:
WHAT IS A GOOD VITAMIN FOR POST-OPS?
I am pre-op (surgery date planned for the 5th of December) and would like to know where I can get the vitamins that I need at a reasonable price, so in these months to come I can start stocking up on my vitamins and such. There is so many out there, anyone have any suggestion on the one that is the best? — Tanya F. (posted on September 23, 2003)

I buy Spring Valley Prenatal vitamins at WalMart. They are under $5 for
100. My surgeon suggested the prenatals as they have extra iron in them.
Someone posted that we shouldn't take them because they have calcium
carbonate - but I take calcium citrate in addition.

I am 7 weeks post-op and I take the Centrum chewable multivitiam in orange
flavor, it has the 100% daily iron and folic acid a women needs. I also
take a B-12 sublingual that goes under the tongue everyday and 1200 gms of
Calcium.

You'll need chewables (or yucky liquid) for the first few months. I agree,
the Centrum chewables (adult - not kids) is good.

I take 2 Flintstones completes a day, along with 1000mg of calcium citrate
and B 12 sublinguals 3x a week. My bloodwork was great at 3 months, and I
am waiting right now for the results for the blood drawn last Saturday.
Oh, and I use the generic chewables---they actually taste better than the
Flintstones!!!

I got Nature's brand vitamin B-12, it isn't chewable but you can chew it
and it doesn't taste gross. I also got Centrum chewable multi-vitamins and
Caltrate chewable calcium tablets.

To the previous poster - Caltrate is calcium carbonate which the post-op
RNY patient does not absorb well (actually, it's not as well absorbed in
the normie either) - you want to take calcium citrate instead. There are
a couple of different brands out there - I take the Twinlab chewable
calcium citrate...JR

Check out www.vitalady.com. I buy my calcium citrate and my multivitamin
there. I don't think you'll find a better price for calcium citrate.
Immediate post-op, I took Centrums orange flavored chewables (which are
pretty good), but after that I bought a 500 vitamin jar from Vitalady which
lasted me the rest of my first year!

I take Bariatric Lifestyle Complete Nutrition System, it is two chewables a
day and only costs around $9 a month. Go to www.protein-solution.com for
more info.
