Question:
Has anyone had or heard of problems with DVT's and pulmonary emboli post-op
I have been reading and hearing about problems post-op Gastric Adjustable Lap Band surgery with DVT's and pulmonary emboli. Has anyone experienced this or heard about any increased problem with this after surgery. Thanks, Jacque Crosier — Jacquelyn C. (posted on March 25, 2003)

ALL surgeries create a risk of bloodclots they arent unique to the band.
They can largely be avoided by getting up and walking immediately after
surgery and every day thereafter. You can also get clots from too much
sitting like a long airliner flight. Dehydration can contribite to the risk
so drink lots of liquidss. Coiuch potato types endanger their health. More
frequent in smokers and women on birth control pills.

I agree that any type of surgery brings on clots, but be warned they are a
deadly risk. I was told that since I was young, healthy and had no
personal or family history of clots I should not worry about getting a
clot.... not true. I developed a DVT a week after my surgery. Know your
body and if you feel anything out of the ordinary let your doctor know.
Good Luck.

My husband had a DVT the week after his open RNY. His leg started hurting
and swelling so to the doctor we went. After a week in the hospital and
six months on medication he is back to normal. He has lost 220 pounds in
10 months and would have the surgery again in a heart beat. I'm 14 months
post op and have lost 195 pounds with no complications. Life is great and
this surgery it wonderful!
