Question:
What is the best way to handle Aetna????
In my insurance book it says under "Managed choice POS plan Expenses not covered. charges for or related to weight reductions or obesity control. Do I still have a chance with my insurance company? I do have back problems and am 140lbs over weight. I'm hoping that someone will have some hopeful insight? I have not submitted this to my insurance as of yet. — Letha B. (posted on March 19, 2003)

The best way to know is to call directly and ask. Your employer seems to
have an exclusion on weight mgmt, but ask specifically about surgery.

I would just go ahead and have my consult. I had Aetna Qpos. They tried
to explain to me that my husband's company did not get that particular
insurance. I just stayed on track and they finally approved me after I
gave them what they asked for, i.e. proof of being 100 pds. overweight for
5 yrs. and under a doctors care for obesity in the last 2 years for 6
months. They paid 100%!
