Question:
has anyone heard of switch surgury?
I had my consultion yesterday, Surgeon seemed knowlagable, very experianced, but the the nicest guy in the world but seemed like he is probablly very good at what he does. Anyway he said he thought the best sugury for me would be somthing he called a switch where instead of making a pouch they take away 3/4 of your stomach leaving the stomach fully fonctinal but more of in a tube shape, says that it will be less life changing because I will be able to eat more normally afterwards then with an RYN. He aslo said with this one that I could go back to solids in week 3. Just want to know if anyone has had this surgury or heard of it and what your results were with it. Sounds like the duodenal switch. There is some info in the library, and I
believe there is a website called www.duodenalswitch.com. I was researching
this procedure myself during my whole process. There are also members of
this site that have had this particular procedure so I'm sure you can find
out all you'll need. Good Luck!

Your surgeon was talking about the Duodenal Switch. I had this surgery 18
months ago. I am very happy with the surgery and my results (I am at
goal--have lost 136 pounds). Read my profile for more info. Also, feel free
to email me if you have more questions after doing some research. You can
also check out www.duodenalswitch.com for excellent information.

LUCKY YOU!!!! The DS was my first choice. I wanted this surgery, although
my insurance will only approve for the RNY. Whichever you decide, best of
luck to you...aims

Good foy you! I went Brazil in Septmeber for a DS! It is the best. My
sister had the RNY, she has lost more than me in a shorter amount of time,
but she has to always watch what she eats, and food gets stuck. Think
quality of life! It is much better! Check out my profile! Go with the
DS! You will not be sorry! Jackie

Hi!! I had the Duodenal Switch on 9/16/02. Started at 205, with MANY
CoMorbids. Now at 128 with NO CoMorbids. My daughter had the RnY a month
earlier. We are both happy with our progress, but I definitely eat more
"normally"...I am VERY happy with my choice. GO FOR IT!!! Diane
