Question:
What happens if I eat potato chips as a new post op?
I am 10 days post and I ate 1 oz of chips! Will I leak? I know I should not have, and I will not do it again. I chewed them until they were liquid. However, I am so worried. I only had a teeny bit of cramping, but I am scared. HELP! — Kathryn S. (posted on February 9, 2003)

I should not say this but I am. I also had a few chips here and there, im
doing fine. No you dont have a leak due to eating them, you chewed well it
sounds like.

I believe you'll be fine. As long as they were pretty mushy going down. I
don't see a problem. I am a little concerned why you had cramping though,
are you still in total liquid diet stage? Maybe that's it, the dissolved
chips were too thick. Even so, you should okay, and if your worried about a
leak, just keep an eye on yourself. If you start running a temperature call
your doctor. Good Luck!

They turn to dust and will go right thru you. Bad food choice since they
will never fill you up.

About 10 days out, I snacked on Baked Tortilla chips with refried beans and
cheese toppings. As long as you chew well and crunch up all the pieces, you
will be fine. Just be careful and try not to get on the carb binge cycle.
It's hard to get off of...but every once in a while...you just got to have
a little bit of something to make you feel normal. I'm 6mos out now and
still occasionally have a handful of potatoe chips, but that's all I want
and all I'll allow myself to have. After reading all the bad stuff about
cancer causing agents in fried potatoes/chips I've been kinda scared of
them. You'll be fine! Good luck in your journey.... Melisa RNY 08/15/02
