Question:
Anyone had their rings re-sized more than once?

My wedding rings are a size 8 (couldn't even get them ON before surgery) and my ring finger is now a size 6. I got the jeweler to put in one of those bars to make them fit better, but now they are still sliding around and it's driving me crazy. I was trying to wait til I got to goal, but.. I have a good 40-60 more lbs. to lose. I actually will probably be getting the diamond engagement ring re-set when I get to goal..it's been sized up and down quite a few times already. I'm not planning on messing with the wedding band though. Both are very thin and I'm concerned resizing twice might be bad..although I guess down is better on it than sizing up. Not wearing them is not an option..that drives me even crazier than having them sliding around. Has anyone else had their rings resized more than once and did it work ok?    — sheltie (posted on January 30, 2003)

I haven't resized any of my rings yet, b/c I knew my ring fingers would just get smaller and I'd have to redo it again. Ofcourse, I'm not a jeweler, but I don't think making them smaller twice can hurt it. You said you have atleast 40 more lbs to lose before goal, so that can make another whole ring size, so you may have to do it three times. Have you thought of a ring guard or filler? I know they make things for rings so you don't have to size it, but so they fit better. Maybe you can do that until you get down to your goal weight? Just a thought, i know resizing can get expensive, too I'm sure. I was like a 9 1/2 and now I am a 7, and am about 15lbs away from goal, so I may resize mine now. Hope I helped a little, goodluck!

I'm about ready to have mine sized down again. I have the bar on now and its driving me crazy too! I've gone from a 8.5 to a 6 and now it looks like I'll be about a 5! I have a platium band and its fairly thick. I'm just putting it off because its $35 every time for each ring I have and I want to make sure this is the LAST time I have to do it. I think your bands will be fine since your going down in size but always ask your jeweler. Hmmm... maybe you can get a whole new setting out of the deal sooner than you think!

Stacey, I just picked up my rings today. This was the second time I have had to have them fixed. The first time the jeweler put 2 gold balls inside the band. It took up some space from the ring and we were also told it would help stabalize top heavy rings. The gold balls did not bother me unless I forgot to take off my rings when I lifted my weights. My wedding ring is 2mm and my engagement ring is a little wider. This time I did have my rings sized.I am about 15 pounds from my goal. The jeweler told us that to keep sizing would stress the band and thesmaller diamonds on the sides of my ring. Some of the diamonds were loose after he sized it so they had to be tightened. Good luck P.s. My diamond sure looks bigger on smaller hands. Nancy

Stacey, Good luck on getting it resized, my original ring size was an 11.5 have to have it re-sized to a size 10 at which point the jeweler said that if I resized it again it would start to loose it's shape, I would not only have to add gold to it, I would have to have the diamonds re-fitted in it.... So just recently I took my diamond ring back to the same place in which I bought it (Inside the mall) and traded my wedding ring and band in for , the only clause was that the new ring would have to cost 2 x's as much as the first.... to allow me to trade it in.. !! Yippee Diamonds a girls best friend, Needless to say now I have a hug diamond and anniversay band on a small finger... I have to keep asking my husband is it too big does it look Gody ? He's like for the price I paid for it that will be the last ring I buy you for a long time, "The last one" Post op down 118 pounds.

BE CAREFUL...I waited too long to have my rings downsized and accidently flushed my engagement ring down the toilet. It fell off when I reached to flush and I couldn't catch it before it was gone. My husband is a saint. After comforting me for 24 hours straight, he took me to the jewelry store and had all my rings resized and bought me a new engagement ring with wrap. While they're beautiful and signify to me the wonderful accomplishment of losing 140lbs. I miss my original. Fortunately, my wedding band didn't fall off. 6 months after having them resized and getting the new ones, I had to have it done again. My new ring fell off in my purse. Needless to say, it's a good thing I'm at goal now. He bought me a 3 diamond aniversay ring for Christmas. I went from a size 9 to a 7 to a 6 that's most of the time a little loose, but my hands tend to swell some so I can't really get them resize much more or there will days when they are too tight. As for your rings being thin, when you have them resized, have the jeweler build them up instead of cutting them down. This is done by filling the inside with gold kind of like lining the inside to make the ring thicker, this will also make it tighter on your finger because it will reduce the inside size of the ring without changing the shape or the size of the outside. I had that done to one of mine.

I would not recommend resizing too many times. As few others mentioned, it stresses the metal and weakens it. When I was pregnant and my rings didn't fit, I put them in the bank vault and wore a simple gold band until I gave birth and the swelling came down. Bought it for $100 at JC Penney. Another thing I did when my weight was fluctuating, was to get a thin band to put on after my wedding and engagement rings that was the correct size. This kept the rings on my finger safely. I had mishaps with stones when several rings were resized, so you need to go to a really reputable dealer and it's definitely worth spending the extra $$. I bought a terrific ring in Bermuda and the stone cracked when the jeweler sized it. He had to send me a new one made in my size directly from the designer. I also had a cameo crack when resizing. Trust me, wear a substitute or a guard until you reach your final weight, eventhough it might be disappointing, and don't forget that your fingers will still swell in the summer heat. Good luck.

boy, did you ask the RIGHT question for me today! I thought I lost my ring this morning at Seattle's Best Coffee! I was getting ready to pay and I glanced at my hand and guess what? NO RING! I lost it--I totally freaked! I ran out and started sobbing on the phone, in the pourig rain, to my husband. I ended up finding my ring in my backpack (I'm a grad student) but I will NEVER lose it again! It took off the 20 years that I gained back from having surgery--heehee! I found my mother's symbol of failure (her wedding ring) and shoved in on after my diamond--her fingers were much smaller so her ring held my ring on and didn't clash as it is a simple, thin, gold band.

I went to Wal-Mart to the jewelry dept. and bought a pack of little plastic tubes that slip over the back of your rings to make them fit tighter. Only $2.00. Just ask the clerk there for something to make your rings smaller.

I went to a jewelery store had had them put a ring guard (it cost about $5) on my engagement ring which makes it tight so it holds my wedding ring on. I am going to wait until I am all done and have it sized then. **Kelly
