Question:
Oh Geez !! I need some advice
Hello, Thank you to anyone to reads and responds to my pathetic question :) I had Lap RNY Nov 18th 2002- Perfect recovery. Ever since day 4- I feel like I'm starving all the time. I have NEVER felt "full" after eatting ANYTHING. I am concerned about the amount of food I can eat..Would like to hear some opinions about my diet...NOTHING has EVER made me sick. I can eat all meats/fish/cheese- I can eat carbs..but try to avoid them. No problems with veggies or breads. I follow all the rules...I always get in at LEAST 64 oz of water (more like 80) I don't drink with meals..and wait an hour after eatting to drink. I hear other post ops say they are able to eat a few bites- and never have an appetite. I find I am able to eat like 4 oz at a time.(depends on what it is) today for brkfst..1oz chicken 2.5 oz cottage cheese..Lunch 1/2 turkey and cheese on a hard roll with mustard, (only the 2nd time I've had bread. I won't have any more til next month) dinner- 2.5 crabcakes (3oz) 1 oz hard cheese...Snack- 1oz pistachios...The day before- Brkfast 1 hard boiled egg..Lunch 2oz chicken 2 oz of sushi, Dinner 3oz chicken 1 oz asparagus..Doesn't this seem like a diet someone 10 months would follow ? Again, I NEVER have a feeling of being full..I MUST stop myself (or I'll just keep eatting) Would love to know what anyone thinks :) — WABBIT F. (posted on January 16, 2003)

It sounds to me like your pouch may be a little larger than usual, if it
was a LAP procedure than maybe your surgeon made it a little bigger. My
question: Are you losing weight? 4 oz is still a tiny little stomach, and
you seem to be eating good things. If you are losing, and taking care of
yourself, I wouldn't worry to death about this. Really look at what 4 oz
looks like (1/2 cup). That is a tiny amount of food. P.S. I was hungry all
the time too. Good Luck to you.

I have a friend who was exactly the same way. She could eat basically what
she wanted. Nothing made her ill except milk. She went to our follow up
doctor and he ordered another upper gi. It showed that her hole was bigger
than it should be. Info was given to surgeon who told her to wait a few
months and see if possible scar tissue would build up and close the hole
some. I guess it does that. Well she has waited and it has gotten better
but she can still eat more than me and i had my surgery 6 weeks before her.
So maybe an upper gi would be in order. I wish i ate as good as you...

Sounds like you are doing fine to me. I could eat 4 0z when I was 8 weeks
out too depending on the density. Honestly, I was hungry the day after
surgery! Your food choices look great. I am 7 months out now (lap rny) and
can eat 6oz of foods at a meal ex: 3 oz chicken three oz veggie and/or
starch, or 6 oz of chili, or spaghetti w/meat sauce over a small amt of
whole wheat pasta. I find that I am hungry about every two hours so
between meals I will have a bite of something, protein works the best but
sometimes I have some fruit, raw veggies, or sf yogurt. I eat two to three
meals per day and two snacks and I have lost 96 pounds. Good luck to you!

You sound like me... I thought this surgery was a failure for me... but I
have lost 90lbs in 6 months so I must be doing okay... I am just now
finding once in a while I'll dump on something I never had a problem with,
it weird... but I just experiment and keep my head up... hang in there...
you'll be fine!!

One word - DITTO. My nutritionist suggested eating an apple and/or baby
carrots before the protein - gives your stomach something solid to work on
that's low cal and filling. It has helped me a lot.
