Question:
Waiting for insurance to become effective Feb. 1,2003. I want to be ready.
I am waiting for insurance to become effective(Feb. 1,2003)what all do I need to have to bring to my Doctor (for referral), so I can get the ball on the roll. Also how long should I wait to go to Dr. after insurance become effective? — Angel S. (posted on January 13, 2003)

Angel- I had the same issue when my new insurance became effective on
January 1, 2003. I went ahead and had my doctor appointment in December so
she could get her letter ready to fax to my new insurance company on
January 6. So far, that has worked and I have my initial consult scheduled
for January 20. I guess my recommendation would be "the sooner the
better". Good luck!! Susan

I was in hte same boat. I waited until January (after my new insurance
became effective) to see the surgeon. I did visit with my PCP in December.
I didn't required a referral but want a letter of recommendation.
One thing my surgeon's office required was a copy of my insurance card.
Forunately I got it two days before my appt. Otherwise they will hold the
paperwork and NOT send anything to the insurance company until they get a
copy of your card.

My husband's company switches their insurance company every year on
December 1st. I went to my PCP on 12/14/02 to get a referral. And now I'm
waiting for my meeting with the Physical therapist and the Dietitian, and
Psychological evaluation. Then I will meet with the surgeon. So I wouldn't
waist any time till the insurance has been effect to long.
