Question:
Can the BilioPancreatic use staples?
I thought my Doctor said that he staples the stomach to make a one ounce pouch for the biliopancreatic, and makes a two ounce pouch for RNY. Does the biliopancreatic always have a duduonal switch? I would appreciate clarity by some of you that have had the procedures. — Arleen P. (posted on December 28, 2002)

Hi! I had a BPD/DS a year ago. The stomach is three to five ounces. It
is cut (the shape of a small banana), stapled, turned under and sewn so the
chance of a leak is very, very, very small. Yes, some surgeons do just the
BPD. Go to www.duodenalswitch.com and ask on there for specific surgeons
in your area. There is a website with an animated picture showing what is
done. I will find it and send it along to you later today. More wesites:
www.cutweight.org - www.gr_ds.com. I'd lost 161lbs. at one year and have
lost three more since the 19th. My surgeon says I am not done since I am
still losing consistantly every week.
