Question:
18 months after RNY numbness in right side began, is it related?

For about two weeks now I have numbness and tingling on right side of face, head, arm, torso, buttock, leg, and foot that comes and goes and varies in severity. Lower leg from knee to ankle is devoid of feeling for over a month. Recent MRI and blood tests reveal no abnormalities. My coordination is not affected. PCP suggests waiting another month before pursuing this further. Could this be related to my RNY (18 months post-op) or to vitamin or mineral deficiency? I usually eat high protein, low carb foods and drink diet sodas. I have neglected my multi-vitamins recently but started taking Seasilver about a week ago. Notice no difference in symptoms.    — mert S. (posted on November 25, 2002)

hi there :) before my rny, i had sciatica problems in my back which would cause my entire right leg to go numb if a slept on or rested on my back. so im sorta wondering if you have a pinched nerve somewhere. a problem elsewhere could cause other areas to either hurt or go numb (refered pain) i was shopping this weekend and right in my ouch area was numb and tingly on the left side and im thinkin what the heck! id get it checked out to find out the cause. best of luck to you :)

You might want to get fresh labs, including your B-vites, specifically B12 & B1. Hopefully, get A, D & zinc levels, as well as the usual iron, protein, albumin?

one of the side effect of not getting enough B12 vitamin, sounds like what you are writing about. talk to your doctor and have him check this out. good luck

Hi, I have read the answers others have posted, and am surprised that no one has yet to mention the posibility of other more major illnesses. I have the numbness, along with other things, which got me a diagnosis of Lupus, (not WLS related). My cousin, who has the numbness, just as you described, is being or trying to be diagnosed presently.. the docs think maybe a stroke or MS. All very serious, all not WLS related. I hate to be the alarmist. But numbness all over like that, especially on one side, spells D O C T O R to me. Please get in ASAP and let us all know how you are doing. Blessings, Annie
