Question:
How long does it take sublingual B12 to dissolve??

I've been taking sublingual B12 from GNC. It seems like it takes *forever* to dissolve under my tongue--seriously, I put this in about 20 minutes ago, and its not totally dissolved. I've read other posts about how b12 dissolves "in an instant". Not for me, it doesn't. Is this an average time? Thanks for any help!    — Laurie A. (posted on November 18, 2002)

I had a similar problem as a new pre-op. My mouth was always dry despite the water I drank and I had very little saliva under my tongue; as a result it took 10-20 minutes for the pill to dissolve. My suggestion is to take a drink of water before you put the B12 under your tongue. I no longer have the dry mouth problem at 15 mo. post-op and the B12 dissolves quickly now (within a minute or two).

I too had the same problem!! Thought I was crazy! What has worked for me, is to drink something warm before I take it, seems to speed up the process!! Good luck to you!

I take mine in the morning on the way to work. I also sip on a glass of Crystal Light tea during the drive. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to get to work and it is disolved just before I get there. I do tend to switch it from side to side under my tongue and sipping on the tea helps too. Tami

Hey Laurie--I take mine in the morning once a week--they are from vitalady and are very small. It dissolves in 5-10 minutes for me. I have the cherry flavored ones.

Drink something warm before you take it- it dissolves almost instantaneously.

You should not drink anything while the B-12 is dissolving under your tongue or it will be too diluted for good absorption. I use Trader Joe's 1000mcg B-12 sublingual and it dissolves so quickly that it's nearly gone before I put the jar lid back on. Try another brand!
