Has anyone went through the Group Health Bariatric Program and....

Has anyone one been through the Group Health Bariatric Program and was approved afterward? I'm in WA state and I have been through the appeal process, in front of the board,and independent review and I've still been turned down. Group Health wants me to join a 6 month weight lose program because I haven't done one for the length and time frame they need which is fine I don't mind. BUT then after that they said I'll have everything I need and I can join their program which cost $800.00. I didn't have a problem with that because I want the surgery more than life itself and this point. But the program takes 9 months and they made it clear that after I complete that they can still say no. In other words just because you go through the program doesn't mean your getting the surgery. What should I do please help I wouldn't mind spending the money for the program but I want and need a gurantee. HELP Thank Javoni WA state    — Javoni B. (posted on October 4, 2002)

I am having surgery on Thursday at Group Health Eastside. With my insurance coverage they pay everything, all I have to pay for is the $725 dollar payment for the years worth of the Weight Management program. Full Payment wasn't due until 30 days prior to surgery, so you will know by then if you are approved. I got my referral in April, so I can't tell you if they have since changed the rules. Some companies have negotiated different coverage levels with the HMO's so mine may be different than yours. I had already had documented weight loss with Optifast so I didn't need to go thru the diet part. Feel free to email me if you have any questions! Stacey [email protected]
