Question:
Can companies add insurance exclusions of weight loss surgery within the contract yea
We have recently been told that our employer has added an exclusion of weight loss surgery to our insurance of BCBS effective two months ago and nobody told us about it. My co-worker has a letter of approval already but the insurance company saids that if your contract doesn't cover this that insurance would not pay for the surgery. — trojanbmf (posted on August 20, 2002)

Unfortunately, employers can modify their plans outside of the annual
renewal period. Alot of companies do it to save on premiums. I would
verify with the insurance carrier as well as with your Benefits
Department/Person that there has been a change. I would also make sure to
find out specifically what the exclusion states. Good luck to you!
