Question:
What does Dr. Todd McCarty require before making an appt?
After reading and researching surgery I've decided I want to start the process. I like what I've read about Dr McCarty and he is on my insurance list. I'm just not sure where to start. I read in someone's comments you need to attend a seminar and have approval first. What else does he need? I plan to make an appt with my PCP but was curious to be more informed before I go. Thanks! — KariB (posted on August 8, 2002)

You need to call the office at 214-824-9963 and get signed up for a
seminar. Once you attend the seminar, you turn in all the paperwork and it
takes about six weeks for the letters of necessity to go out. Once you get
your approval, they will call you for a consult and that is when you get
your surgery date. You will absolutely love Dr. M! I used Dr. K, his
partner, but they are both the best doctors around! They usually only do
lap too, unless there is a reason that they have to do open.

Dr.McCarty is wonderful. The office number is 214-824-9963--call and
schedule a date for the seminar which is done at Roberts Hospital the
Folsom Tower 17th Floor-it will be on a Thursday evening. You are then
encouraged to go to the support group meetings (same place different room
on 17th floor). At the seminar you get the paperwork for submission and
once that's all turned in and your insurance carrier approves you, you will
be scheduled for a one on one with Dr.M--this consultation can take
anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. He is very warm and caring and wants
to ensure he answers any and all questions you may have. I recommend him
or his partner, Dr. Kuhn without hesitation. Their support system is top
of the line and when I was on the OR table one of the staff mentioned that
Dr.M is one of the best surgeons in the nation for the laproscopic
procedure. Hope this info helps!!!!
