Question:
What is this dizzieness from?
I am two weeks post op and was feeling fine until two days ago. All of a sudden when I wake up in the morning I am so terribly dizzy and feel like I can't concentrate. I drank my 3 oz. of apple juice & some water, but I am sweating and don't feel right. The dizzieness yesterday continued until the mid afternoon. Has this happened to anyone and what was the cause. I am waiting on a call back from my doc. Thanks for your help. Ellen — Ellen H. (posted on July 22, 2002)

I still get a little dizzy from time to time. Especially is I turn too
fast or get up too fast. I have noticed that since I am eating more
calories a day (500 rather than 200-300) I am getting much better. As a
matter of fact the only time I notice it now is in the morning when I am in
the shower...I can't get myself to eat right away in the morning. HOWEVER,
if it continues at a steady rate for the next day or so please call your
Doc.

My guess would ether be dehydration or low potassium. Better get a blood
test for your potassium level just in case it's that. (Low potassium is
VERY dangerous). Also, maybe you have low blood sugar. I'm sure others will
post some other possible things it could be. The best thing is to see your
doctor. (Does'nt have to be your surgeon).

I have found that, especially in this heat, but maybe all the time, I am
doing much better with 4 ounces of orange juice several times a day. I
pour it over ice, and drink it as the ice melts, so it is a bit diluted.
OJ is one of the few fruit drinks that offers more than sugar. It is an
excellent source of potassium, Vitamin C, and FLUID! Plus, you can buy the
kind that has calcium too (not sure what kind of calcium though...). I
felt better the day I started this. If it is dehydration OR low potassium,
this is a good way to kill two birds with one stone. Good luck. Could you
post here again to let us know how things worked out?

Hi Ellen - me too on that one. It hasn't happened in quite some time but I
had a HORRIBLE bout w/dizziness. It took about 3-weeks to clear up. The
doctor I went to (not my surgeon) told me she thought it was an inner ear
infection. I don't think so but I just gave it time. My feet would barely
hit the floor in the mornings and it felt as though the entire room was
spinning uncontrollably. I would have to walk using the wall as my guide
many times. I still don't know what caused it but know that it's common
with this surgery for some reason - in talking with others, they said time
would help it pass...and it did. Hopefully yours will pass too.
