Question:
I.V. in neck and Dr Walters in San Antonio
My husband told me today that a wife of a coworker who had wls had an iv in her neck. That is freaking me out more than the surgery. (I have never had any surgery before and the few times i was in the hospital for other reasons, I did not have a good expierience with the nurse putting in an I.V.in my arm, much less my NECK!) What is that and will it hurt? Also I am desperatly trying to find someone who had or is going to have a VBG with Dr Walters in San Antonio who is willing to e-mail or call me and share wisdom, advice, helpful hints, etc. — salymsmommy (posted on July 15, 2002)

They start with an IV in your arm. The one in your neck is put in after you
are asleep. IT IS WONDERFUL because they will able to draw blood from it
for tests, instead of sticking you each time! In addition, that is where
they will administer medications.... so no shots!

I had my openVBG in June of 2001 (I've lost 140 lbs) with Dr. Walters. I
just adore that man!
Anyway - I've had major surgery 9 times in my life and only had the neck IV
with the VBG. (It was put in after I was "out"). I have to say
that the neck IV was THE MOST pleasant, comfortable, totally non-painful IV
experience I've ever had - ever! It was GREAT! I couldn't even feel it was
there and, through it, they did everything. Administered the fluids, gave
the meds, drew blood....no more "extra" sticks for stuff.
WONDERFUL Op and Post-op experience. Feel free to email me any time with
any questions. [email protected]
