Question:
Has any post-ops had low blood pressure?
I just went to my doctor for my year check up and i had extremly low blood pressure? He said it was ok cuz of all the weight i have lost (140lbs). But i just had it checked 2weeks ago and it was fine. What does this mean? I am so nervous! He said people as petite and I am now will have low blood pressure. It was 84/52. This scares me to death. — Candiss T. (posted on June 21, 2002)

I have had low blood pressure my whole life. It has become even lower with
my weight loss. Mine is about where yours is as well. And my docs dont
seem too worried about it. Just be careful getting up too quickly, it
sometimes will make you a bit lightheaded.

I was diagnosed with low blood pressure at my one-year check-up as well. I
was told it was a result of the huge weight loss. I still get very dizzy
and light-headed if I stand up too quickly. My doctor told me it was
nothing to worry about, and advised me to add liberal amounts of salt to my
diet.

My wife who is 14 months post-op has also had problems with low blood
sugar. Suggestions would be to increase fluids, salt and potassium intake.
Also low blood pressure can be a symptom of B-12 dificiency, so you may try
boosting your intake of B-12. That really helped my wife. I am 3.5 months
post-op and off medication for high blood pressure.

This is interesting... today, my blood pressure was 84/62. Also low for
someone who is ALWAYS 120/80. I'm a post op and at goal so what's been
mentioned here about the weight loss and resulting low BP is interesting to
me. Furthermore, I have frequent bouts of dizziness. Particularly when
getting out of bed in the morning or if I move from a sedentary position
too quickly. I will be seeing my WLS doc on Monday and I am going to take
this information to him. Thanks to all of you for posting!
