Question:
I have more Acne..I drink 1 gallon water a day...why do I have more now

My surgeon claims that there is no relation between the surgery and acne but something is differrent because I didn't have much pre-op and post-op I am getting it regularly on my face and back. I am drinking a minimum of 1 gal. of water per day. What is going on?    — Krissy A. (posted on June 15, 2002)

It could just be hormone fluctuations. I have read many times that estrogen levels increase when you are losing weight rapidly because estrogen is stored in the fat you are burning. The hormone fluctuations during my cycle alone cause me to break out, very predictably, just before my period. Hopefully it will pass when your weight stabalizes more.

TOTALLY HORMONES....!!!! The ONLY time in my whole life that I had any problem with breakouts was when I was pregnant...My back and face broke out so bad that I couldn't stand it...almost like I had boils on my skin...Went away immediately after delivery....TOTALLY HORMONES....

I tend to think of it as all the *crap* that is trapped in your body, needs to come out one way or another. So when you are shedding pounds, you are losing your fat "stores" etc., Fat stores a bunch of other nasty junk as well as hormones (why am I losing hair? why am I emotional? what is going on with my sex drive?). It comes out throught your urine (why does my pee smell so wierd? wow, those are some nasty BM's, what's up with that?) and your pores etc (why do I have this acne). You are flushing your system which is GREAT, but the downside is that all that junk is gonna come out (we are what we ate!)and we are going to see, smell etc. what we have been hoarding for a long, long time.

Krissy, I'm coming up on my one-year anniversary. My skin has been balistic ever since--bad breakouts on my face--very dry skin everywhere else. I highly recommend going to see a dermatologist. That's what I did; she has me on a prescription cream, as well as a specially formulated facial wash and a moisturizer. My skin is looking so much better--and feeling better as well! I tried handling these problems first on my own and only made them worse. Wish I wouldn't have waited so long to consult a professional...but I'm so glad that I finally did!
