Question:
What do I do about extremley dry skin and dehydration?
Since my surgery my skin is so dry that I am causing myself a rash from the scratching. I assume that is also related to the fact that I have had unbelievable dry mouth since my surgery also. No matter how much water I drink and how much lotion I put on, I can not get rid of either condition. Does anyone have any sugestions? — Ammy T. (posted on May 25, 2002)

When was your surgery? What kind? How much water (as in water) are you
drinking? What is your vite regimen, and protein supp? Are you taking any
dry vit E? I can't try to answer anything since I don't have any info to
work from! Clues? Please?

The first thing that comes to mind for me is a lack of fat in your diet.
There has been MUCH media coverage of our high fat diets in the US, but the
fact is that our bodies need protein, carbs and fat to function properly.
Now, please understand that I am NOT saying you should have a Super Size
order of fries everyday. However, switching to 2% milk, adding a teaspoon
of real cream to your protein drink, using a teaspoon or two of real
dressing on a salad or as a sauce with some chicken can go a long way to
getting your hair and skin rehydrated.

I am having the same problem! I am scratching myself bloody! I know that I
am very low fat in my diet, but I am taking vit E in my multi-vit. I used
to get hives from my BP meds but I've stopped those. Any ideas would be
great. I am 4 months post-op RNY.

I was having a rash problem on my belly--on both sides of my incision...it
looked like heat rash and itched like crazy. The internist said I have
"walking pneumonia" (bacterial type & I had written it off to
allergies) and with the antibiotic and zinc oxide cream....I am healed!
